Reduced work productivity expensive for society
 Hearing loss costs society US$200,000
The costs to society may be reduced substantially if the hearing-impaired person receives earlier and better treatment with hearing aids and hearing screenings. Proper rehabilitation programmes to help people stay in the labour market are also essential. Compared to other impairments hearing loss is relatively inexpensive and easy to treat.

More than 80 million Europeans with hearing loss
More is known about the levels of hearing health in Western Europe and North America than any other part of the world. This is due to the highly developed European and American health care systems.
Hearing aids perform better than expected
Hearing aid users report greater improvement in their quality of life than they anticipated when they received their hearing aids. Hearing impaired patients rarely imagine the difference hearing aids can make in their daily life.
 Kindergartens with infernal noise
Noisy games, screaming children, and clattering tables and chairs make for extremely noisy conditions in kindergartens and nurseries. According to a study undertaken by the Danish association of nursery and kindergarten teachers, the daily noise levels in kindergartens are often in the 80 to 85 dB range.
One in six with hearing loss
Sixteen percent of adult Europeans suffer from hearing loss great enough to adversely affect their daily life. But just a small minority of people needing hearing aids use them even though hearing aids can be vital for holding employment and improve quality of life.
